INDIANAPOLIS–How a woman died on the east side of Indianapolis this morning is unclear. Indianapolis Metro Police said they got a call that she had been shot, but that tuned out not to be the case.

When they got there officers found a 70-year-old woman at the BP gas station at 30th and Mitthoeffer. Because the caller said the woman had been shot, officers initially treated the call that way, but determined that there was no bullet wound.

The woman was pronounced dead of an “unidentified trauma”. Detectives began looking for witnesses and clues.

The Marion County Coroner’s Office will be assisting and will determine the exact manner and cause of death, said a news release from IMPD. If you have any info, you’re urged to contact the IMPD homicide office at 317-327-3475 or Crime Stoppers at 317-262-TIPS.
