Why Can’t The Indiana Republican Party Solve Basic Issues?

Property taxes were candidate Mike Braun’s number one campaign legislative agenda. Bring back property taxes to 2021 levels, seemed like an achievable objective. But could the Indiana Republican Party with their supermajority get it done? Nooooo! While the governor is cheering a $300 tax credit, now municipalities are likely to raise income taxes, and school districts are likely to push through new tax levy referendums tightening the screws on everyday Hoosiers. Why can’t the Indiana Republican party solve basic issues?
Tony Katz:
And then of course, there’s property taxes, so good Lord. Um, to think that we have a General Assembly that could so mutilate. This this legislation. I, I think it’s, it’s clearly obvious that the, the Indiana Republican Party doesn’t quite understand what we’re saying. And this is true regarding property taxes, this is true regarding Diego Morales. You’re under this this misconception. That you’re doing the work. And what we’re trying to tell you is some of these other things are the work. Eric Holcomb, to his detriment and really to his shame, always saw these things as noise. This is noise. I’m working on the important issues. It’s not noise when you have a Secretary of State Diego Morales. Taking foreign trips and we just want to know how it got paid for. We should know we live in a society. Where people abuse power, and what satisfies is knowing that no power was abused. I can’t stop the Secretary of State from going to India. I’m not trying to stop the Secretary of State from going to India. I am asking whether or not it was paid for by tax dollars, whether or not the money used was some part of some level of deal that gave some level of influence. When we take a look at the situation with the cars, and we should be clear that Michael Beckwith screwed this up… the Lieutenant governor, and so did Diego Morales.
The property taxes are getting out of control. There’s the conversation that I bring up, which is whether or not you actually own what you own, which nobody is willing to touch because they know I’m right. Property taxes mean you do not own what you own. And it’s wrong, and it’s abusive, and it’s a way of hiding what numbers are actually spent. Tax increases in the cities will mean the property tax decrease will be wiped away. Well, of course an income tax increase was going to come, and cities can do this, and then I can move to someplace that didn’t increase those taxes. But the people arguing well, without these property taxes, the city won’t have amenities and then you won’t be able to get fire or police. That’s a disgusting, immoral argument.
