The NCAA Tournament has finally drawn to a close, with the Florida Gators capturing another title in dramatic fashion over the Houston Cougars.

Now that the confetti has fallen, the nets cut down, and the champion crowned, some are already looking ahead to next year, and what teams are worth keeping an eye on. The consensus seems to be that one of those teams is the Purdue Boilermakers.

Multiple outlets had the Boilermakers listed near or at the top of their Way-Too-Early Top 25 rankings for 2025-26. ESPN has the Boilermakers ranked 2nd, just under the national runners-up, the Houston Cougars. Meanwhile the New York Times has them as the top-ranked team in the country.

Some of the main reasons for pundits being so bullish on the Boilers and their chances has to do with the return of head coach Matt Painter, as well as key pieces like Braden Smith, C.J Cox, and Trey Kaufmen-Renn. In addition, the Boilermakers will be adding 6-foot -11 center Oscar Cluff from South Dakota State and will see the return of 7-foot-4 center Daniel Jacobson after suffering an injury early in the 2024 season. Both will help shore up the inside for Purdue.

It’s still far too early to have any real idea how the 2025-26 season will go for any team, but if you’re a fan of the Purdue Boilermakers, it seems like you may be in for a fun ride.
