New Diploma Requirements

STATEWIDE — Indiana is implementing new high school diploma requirements, with partnerships announced to help graduates achieve their future goals based on the seals they receive.

The state’s new diploma structure includes minimum requirements for all students and opportunities for honors and honors plus seals in enrollment, employment, and enlistment and service. Partnerships with higher education, business, and the Indiana National Guard aim to provide students with a direct path from high school to their next steps, whether it be a career, higher education, or enlisting.

“Quality education is key to a prosperous economic future for Indiana,” said Indiana Governor Mike Braun. “Today, by working with our partners, including many in the private sector, we have an opportunity to not only improve outcomes for students statewide, but also strengthen our state economy for years to come.”

The state’s secretary of education expressed excitement about the opportunities ahead, emphasizing the value of the readiness seals for students. The new diploma requirements will go into effect for the class of 2029, with schools having the option to opt in starting in the 2025-26 school year.
