SOUTH BEND, Ind. — A kayaking accident is what led to the death of an Indiana man in Michigan.

Police in Niles, Mich. found the body of 40-year-old Jean Claude Mutabazi, of South Bend, in the St. Joseph River on Wednesday. 

Mutabazi and three other men were kayaking Wednesday morning when they “ran into trouble,” Niles Police said. Mutabazi and two others went into the river. The other two men survived and were treated for exposure to the cold.

Police are still looking into how Mutabazi died. The water temperature at the time of the accident was just 39 degrees.
