MONROVIA, Ind — Dozens of Hoosiers gathered at a public hearing in Martinsville to discuss a proposed project that would transform 390 acres of farmland into a large data center campus.

The “Morgan County Data Center Project” seeks to rezone 390 acres, with plans to develop 377 acres near State Road 42, between West Union and North Antioch roads. The project would include five buildings, four large structures, and one smaller facility.

Local residents expressed concerns about the environmental impact, particularly the potential strain on the water supply, as data centers can consume up to 5 million gallons of water per day for cooling.

Noise pollution was also raised, though project leaders assured that sound buffers and berms would be implemented.

Despite reassurances, many residents remain uncertain about how the project will affect their community, especially in terms of maintaining the quiet, safe environment they value for their families.

The Morgan County Plan Commission approved the plan, moving it forward for final approval from the Commissioners.
