INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — A parking lot brawl near Castleton led police on a chase that ended with serious injuries from a crash off of I-465.

The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department says that around 2:15 a.m., Feb. 9, an off-duty officer called for help to break up a large fight in a parking lot in the 6300 block of East 82nd Street, near the Castleton Square Mall.

While responding officers arrived to help, police say one suspect got into a vehicle to flee. Police tried to stop them, but the driver “led officers on a vehicle pursuit.”

The westbound chase ended when the suspect’s vehicle went off the road near I-465 and North Meridian Street. IMPD says that two people inside the vehicle were taken to the hospital in serious condition but are expected to survive.

Five people from the original fight were arrested for various charges including battery, disorderly conduct, and resisting law enforcement.

While the investigation is ongoing, IMPD said in the press release, “charges for the occupants stemming from the vehicle pursuit and what led to the pursuit are likely forthcoming.”
