WASHINGTON- Tariffs on Mexico and Canada will be put on hold for one month.
President Trump’s decision comes after he spoke with Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum Monday morning, and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau in the afternoon.
In a post on X, Sheinbaum said Mexico will send ten-thousand National Guard members to the U.S. border to prevent drug trafficking into the U.S. Trudeau said on social media that after a good call with Trump, Canada would spend over a billion dollars on a plan to reinforce its border, along having ten-thousand frontline personnel “working on protecting the border.”
Tariffs against China are still set to go into effect just after midnight, although Trump said a deal could be made to avoid them. Earlier Monday, the President said he would like to see Canada become the 51st state of the U.S., when asked what the country could do to change his mind regarding tariffs.
