BENTON COUNTY, Ind. — The Benton County Sheriff’s Office is looking into a crash of a 1993 Chevrolet truck and a 2019 Volvo semi-truck, which happened Tuesday afternoon before 5:00. Authorities say it happened at the intersection of US-41 and County Road 300 South.
“They believe that the Chevrolet truck failed to stop for the stop sign at US-41,” says Indiana State Police Sergeant Jeremy Piers. “At that point in time, the 2019 Volvo semi-truck, pulling a trailer, was traveling northbound on US-41.”
Piers says the 1993 Chevrolet truck was traveling westbound on County Road 300 South. As soon as it entered the intersection with US-41, that’s when it crashed into the semi-truck.
“That Chevrolet truck ran into the passenger’s side of the Volvo semi-truck,” Piers says.
Officers say the truck driver died at the scene, and their name wasn’t said. The driver of the semi-truck was identified as 64-year-old, Roman Hnatyuk, and he was not injured in the crash.
Piers says US-41 and County Road 300 South are now okay to drive on.
“The reconstruction has been completed, and all law enforcement officers are no longer in the area, so they’re fine to drive on,” Piers says.
