INDIANAPOLIS — President-Elect Donald Trump plans to introduce trade tariffs on some countries, and Governor Eric Holcomb is waiting to see how they will affect Indiana.

“So where it’s costing us more on one end, what he’s trying to say is we can level the playing field in a number of ways,” Holcomb said to reporters at the Indiana Statehouse. “He’s gotten the attention of certain markets around the world by talking about tariffs. I want to see more of the details.”

Trump posted on Truth Social Monday, announcing plans to impose a 25% tariff on all goods from Canada and Mexico, and a 10% tariff on Chinese goods. Many Chinese goods already face tariffs from Trump’s first term. He stated that the tariffs are intended to strengthen border security and curb the flow of fentanyl into the U.S.

Holcomb also discussed Governor-Elect Mike Braun’s transition, which will help Braun reshape the government according to his vision.

“I made some changes in the cabinet composition,” Holcomb added. “How we meet, where we meet, how often we meet. So did my predecessor, the former Vice President Mike Pence.”
