INDIANAPOLIS–The Indianapolis Colts are sticking with Joe Flacco as their starting quarterback for this Sunday’s game against the New York Jets.
Flacco had three interceptions and lost a fumble in the Colts 30-20 loss to the Buffalo Bills on November 10.
On Monday in a meeting with reporters after announcing that Flacco would continue to be the starter, Colts Head Coach Shane Steichen said Flacco had two games he’d like to have back.
“Obviously, the interceptions – there are three of those. There were two that he’d want back. Again, you just stick with it. You grind through it. The process of this whole thing, man, it really is a process. So, we’re going through that process right now. Right now, Joe (Flacco) is still our guy,” said Steichen.
That means Anthony Richardson is the team’s backup. Steichen was asked why Richardson isn’t the starter after a tough performance against Buffalo.
“Yeah, I think it’s just consistent with the process – that’s what it is. You’ve got to go through the process every single day and that’s where it’s at. He’s a great person, a phenomenal human being. Like I said, not ever losing faith or trust in him. We’re going through a process right now and that’s where it’s at,” said Richardson.
Steichen was also asked what “going through the process” meant.
“Yeah, well like I said, we’re going through a process – that’s it,” said Steichen.
Colts players Zaire Franklin and Kenny Moore have expressed concerns about the way the team is playing and how hard everyone is working. Steichen was asked if he had worries about the team’s culture.
“I don’t, because we’ve got a lot of good guys. I really don’t. I think any time, like I said, when you’re going through adversity it’s how you’re going to respond to it. I mean, last year we went through adversity, we were sitting at 3-5, kind of in the same boat that we are now, and found a way to get out of it, and we kept battling through it. I think if you keep the faith and you keep believing, and you keep grinding through the process and you got the right mindset about it it’ll turn. It’ll turn,” said Steichen.
