STATEWIDE--Now that Indiana Republican Mike Braun has become Governor-elect Braun, he discussed what’s coming next on Wednesday morning.
While he did say he would come in and not make drastic changes right away, he did say that he would look “critically” at each state agency.
“If there’s an agency that’s working well, just because it’s been a part of something else, it would be silly to do something with it,” said Braun.
Braun also discussed his transition team.
“Whoever we have on the team will understand that it’s going to be my vision of being an entrepreneurial Governor that’s going to be conservative on the financial side, but very entrepreneurial on the problem fixing side. This team will be there to get us from one administration to the next, but what you should be doing is paying attention to what we do after we transition,” said Braun.
He said the state’s education will be a major part of his fiscal priorities.
“K-12 is half of our budget, post secondary is another 15%, and workforce education is also very important,” said Braun.
Braun said having Micah Beckwith as his Lieutenant Governor has helped bring the Republican party together.
“Part of the party that he represents is where the passion is on the conservative side, so that’s been a benefit,” said Braun.
Braun and Beckwith will be sworn in in early January.
Braun, 70, will succeed outgoing Republican Governor Eric Holcomb, who could not obtain a third term because of term limits. Braun opted not to seek re-election to a second term in the Senate so he could run for governor.
