WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Todd Young (R-Ind.) spoke Thursday at a press conference after the Consumer Price Index (CPI) showed inflation increased to 7.9% in February.

“We’ve seen the price of household goods and essentials outpace the increase in wages consistently, across income groups and across geographies,” said Young. “In short, people are hurting.”

Young focused his press conference around people who are on fixed incomes. He said the rising prices of rent and everyday items such as groceries are making life more stressful for Hoosier families.

“I had the opportunity just days ago to speak to the director of a not-for-profit on the east side of Indianapolis by the name of the Shepherd Community Center. They provide social services to at-risk Hoosiers and their families, and what this director told me was incredibly compelling and heart-rending. We have families that this director is serving that are having to water down their milk to last a little bit longer.”

Young spoke out against policies that are being pushed by Democrats, including President Joe Biden’s Build Back Better Act. He said such policies would do nothing but worsen the problem.

“I’m here to reassure my constituents, especially those who are on fixed incomes, that I’m not only attentive to this issue, it is my number one priority as your United States Senator,” claimed Young.
