It’s official, Hoosiers. October was the deadliest month in the history of Indianapolis.

The Numbers: At least 80 people were shot and 24 were stabbed.

Just to drive the point home, that’s 104 shot or stabbed with 34 killed in just 31 days.

By Comparison: Indy outpaced Chicago in homicides per capita by 67% in October. Indianapolis averaged a homicide every 22 hours and set a new record for the deadliest month in the city’s 200-year history.

Year Over Year Through October:

2021 murders: 213

2020 murders: 174

2021 homicides: 232 – only eight shy of the city’s all-time record with two months to go

2020 homicides: 203
