NEWTON COUNTY, Ind.–Felony drug charges have been filed against a woman who police say was in possession of meth and marijuana in Newton County Tuesday morning.

It happened near U.S. 41 and State Road 114.

State police say a trooper discovered that Aeisha Chapman, 46, of Lafayette was driving a blue Hyundai Sonata at a “much lower speed than the posted speed limit” and came to an abrupt stop at an intersection where drivers are not required to stop.

The trooper said he pulled up to the car and had probable cause to “conduct further investigation into the driver’s behavior.” He said he found about 28 grams of meth along with 5 grams of suspected marijuana and additional paraphernalia.

Chapman was arrested and taken to the Newton County Jail.

Chapman is facing charges of possession of meth (level 4 felony), possession of marijuana (class b misdemeanor), and possession of paraphernalia (class c misdemeanor).
