Senate Republicans successfully blocked the so-called “For the People Act” – a blatant attempt by Democrats to rewrite the rules that govern our elections by seizing control from state and local officials and putting the federal government in charge.

S.1 was effectively an effort to nationalize elections our elections and turn the Federal Election Commission into a partisan arm of the Democrat party.

The truth is that S.1 was a desperate power grab by the Democrat party, designed to take seats away from growing red states. It had nothing to do with improving voting and everything to do with power.

The most egregious provision in the S.1 voting bill would have gutted voter ID laws.  It was justified by Democrats with the lie that voter ID requirements are unpopular with Americans and aimed at suppressing the minority vote.

But voter I.D. laws are, in fact, overwhelmingly popular with voters across the entire political spectrum, according to a recent Monmouth University Poll, which found that 80% of the public is in favor of requiring a form of identification before a person can vote. Breaking it down across the political spectrum, 91% of Republicans, 87% of independents, and 62% of Democrats were in support. The poll found only 18% of voters are in opposition to such policies.

Senator Lindsey Graham (R-SC) spoke out against S.1 Tuesday following the Senate’s vote.
