UPDATE: The final day of the Marion County Fair has been canceled after Saturday night’s shooting at the Marion County Fairgrounds. The fair board made the announcement Sunday morning.

“While it is unfortunate that the fair had to be canceled, we had to put the safety of the public first,” said Abdul Hakim-Shabazz, who is on the fair board. “We want to thank everyone who came out last week and made eight days of the fair a success. We are working to make sure that next year’s fair is safe and secure.”

INDIANAPOLIS — Indianapolis Metro Police are investigating a shooting at the Marion County Fair.

IMPD officers were called to the Marion County Fairgrounds around 8:30 Saturday night on a report of a person shot. Police said one person was found shot and was stable when taken to an area hospital.

Detectives believe the shooting happened as a result of a group of about 100 teenagers rushing the gate at the fairgrounds, which caused a fight and shots fired. The sheriff’s office says ‘numerous juveniles’ have been arrested and multiple firearms have been recovered from the scene.

One deputy sustained minor injuries during the chaos that resulted from the shooting.
