INDIANAPOLIS — A Pike High School student was taken into custody and charged on Tuesday, after school police found a gun in their car, said the district.

Police found the gun in the locked car while investigating suspected marijuana use. The car was on school property.

The district says that the gun was legally owned by a student and that they had a valid license to carry.

It’s the second gun school police have found in less than a month. On Feb. 5, school police found a gun in a backpack while investigating suspected vape use.

Full statement from the Pike Township schools:

“The Pike Police Department discovered a gun in a locked vehicle on the Pike High School campus while conducting a search related to suspected marijuana use. Although the gun was legally owned by the student with a valid license to carry, the person was charged and taken into custody.”
