GARY, Ind. — Three people drifted from the shore of Marquette Park Beach yesterday, two made it back, but the search for one Merrillville woman continues.

Crews searched for Tiara Hardy Monday evening until choppy water conditions in Lake Michigan and darkness made the Conservation police call off the search till morning.

Conservation Police spokesman Tyler Brock says that the Conservation Police plan to try side scan sonar technology in their search Tuesday.

Hardy was swimming with her friends and attempted to get back shore because of the high waves, and strong currents, Brock said.

Daniel Harman, of Portage, was at the beach with his girlfriend and daughters, when he saw three people drifting from shore and yelling for help. He told the Times the people were in high, choppy waves about 100 feet from shore.

Harman said he swam out and grabbed a man, and a woman pulled herself out of the water. Tiara Hardy was the farthest out. Harman’s daughter Addison told the Times the last time she saw Hardy was when a wave crashed over her.

Hardy was last seen wearing gray shorts and a red top.

The woman and the man that made it to shore are fine, according to police.
