Jeff Miller has issued a public apology after resigning from the Indianapolis City-County Council and pleading guilty in connection with allegations that he inappropriately touched children.

Miller had been charged with three counts of child molesting. Those counts were dropped, and he pleaded guilty to four new counts of battery on an individual under age 14.

WIBC hosts Hammer & Nigel talked with Indy Star reporter James Briggs about the latest developments in the Miller saga – including why he won’t serve any time in prison despite pleading guilty.

Briggs:

“Basically as a result of the plea deal, he admitted to ‘unwanted touching’ to two 10 year-old girls. This is something that if it were an adult it would be a misdemeanor. Because it’s two minors, that makes it an automatic felony and forces him to resign from the city council. So it’s a lesser charge that will only require him to serve probation; however, because he is now a convicted felon, Indiana law states that he cannot serve in elected office.”
