FAYETTE COUNTY, Ind. — Fayette County Schools are on lockdown while police search for three murder suspects.

A person was shot and killed just before 1 a.m. Thursday at the Elephant Hill Trailer Park in Connersville.

Sheriff’s deputies are searching for three men they believe are responsible. The men are said to be white and in their early 20s and were spotted in a purple or red Dodge Neon.

FCSC superintendent Scott Collins said the school corporation decided to place the schools on lockdown as a “safety precaution.”

“I received a call from the Sheriff at 7:15 a.m. notifying me of a shooting that occurred after midnight at the Elephant Hill Trailer Park. He said there is a full manhunt taking place,” Collins wrote on Facebook. “They are not sure if the suspects are in the county; however, as a precaution, all facilities need to keep all exterior doors locked.”

Students are following their normal schedules, but recess and outdoor activities are canceled.

Collins said schools will remain on lockdown until the men are arrested.

Anyone with information about the suspects or their whereabouts should call the Connersville Police Department at (765) 825-2111 or Fayette County Sheriff’s Department (765) 825-1110.
