INDIANAPOLIS — The Indiana Pacers start training camp tomorrow as the start of the regular season gets closer.
Head coach Nate McMillan said the team was able to grow even closer over the summer months, thanks to Victor Oladipo’s insistence that they all train with him in Miami. He added he instructed his coaching staff not to tag along.
“I wanted us to stay away from that,” McMillan said. “That was a moment and a time for them and I thought it was important that they handle that on their own.”
The Pacers are coming off a surprising season in which they took the Cleveland Cavaliers, led by LeBron James, to seven games in the opening round of the NBA Playoffs but came up short. Oladipo said he’s not dwelling on the past.
“I don’t think the guys are worried about last year, because it was last year,” Oladipo said. “We can’t go back in time, because if we could I would certainly change a few things, but it is what it is.”
McMillan said he expects big things from the Pacers’ first round draft pick in Aaron Holliday. He adds he can see the maturity the rookie has thanks to his two older brothers who are already NBA players.
Training camp starts tomorrow with the Pacers season opening game against the Memphis Grizzlies October 17th at Banker’s Life Fieldhouse.
