GRANT COUNTY, Ind. — A former detective with the Grant Co. Sheriff’s Office is facing charges after an Indiana State Police investigation uncovered he was stealing from evidence.

According to a press release from ISP, the investigation revealed that between March 11, 2015 and April 2, 2018, Det. Lt. Shelby Taylor accessed a locked evidence locker, which only he and two other employees could get in to, and stole prescription medication. Taylor then filed false paperwork saying the evidence had been destroyed or sent for testing.

As of Tuesday, Taylor faces charges of official misconduct, theft, and possession of a controlled substance.

Taylor resigned from the department back in August, and is scheduled to appear in court on October 22
