Not all heros wear capes, but all CVS employees who heroically thwart a robbery in progress will be promptly fired.
Yes, right here in good ole’ Indiana, a loyal, five-year worker at a CVS drugstore in Greenfield, Indiana is learning the hard way that the executive fatheads of the Consumer Value Store corporation (That’s ‘CVS’ to you and me, Russ) have no tolerance for employees who selflessly put their lives at risk for the sake of others.
Former CVS employee Zach Phillips was recently fired for preventing a criminal from robbing his employer and assaulting his co-worker. That’s right; nothing more disgusting to the angelic corporate overlords of CVS than a man protecting the lives of others.
Phillips told WISH-TV in an exclusive interview that a man came into the store and handed his pharmacist a note saying it was a pharmacy robbery.
“Then, he put his hands on my pharmacist and I was right there when it happened,” Phillips said. “I didn’t know what was going to happen from that point. But, I wasn’t going to let him hurt my pharmacist.”
Phillips and another employee then tackled the robber, who has since been identified by police as Jagger Maupin, 22, from Franklin.
All’s well that ends well, right? Well, not exactly.
Apparently the CVS employee manual says something to the effect of “If someone comes into one of our stores with a gun and threatens your life, take special care to avoid defending yourself and/or protecting the lives of others. Better to be shot to death than risk a struggle that could potentially damage merchandise and displays in the store.”
CVS fired Phillips and the pharmacist a few days after the robbery for violating company policy.
Yep, sorry minimum wage heroes of the drugstore industry of America: rules be rules.
