President Donald Trump, who declared multiple times throughout his 2016 campaign that he “loved Wikileaks,” is receiving a heavy dose of criticism for his apparent change of heart and loss of memory in the wake of Wikileaks founder Julian Assange’s arrest Thursday.
“I know nothing about WikiLeaks,” Trump told reporters in the Oval Office. “It’s not my thing.”
Trump said he didn’t know anything about Assange’s arrest and said what happens next is up to the attorney general.
“I know nothing really about it — it’s not my deal in life,” he said.
The President’s detractors were quick to criticize the perceived flip-flop, but WIBC host Tony Katz took a different angle.
Katz:
“What I took from that was not that he didn’t know anything about Wikileaks. I took it as he didn’t know anything about this particular case; he didn’t have all the information about this specific case. That’s what I took from this. Because if he wants to say he didn’t know anything about Wikileaks, you can’t have that conversation; he’s talked about that many times. But to say he didn’t know anything about the specific case, okay. I can absolutely, positively see that, and that’s the way I think he meant it.”
