LAWRENCE, Ind. — Lawrence police said the victim in a shooting Wednesday night has died.

An 18-year-old male driver of a car was taken to Eskenazi Hospital Wednesday night following a shooting at 56th Street and Boy Scout Road, the Lawrence Police Department said.

The victim of the shooting died hours later at the hospital.

The shooting was first reported around 6:15 p.m. after witnesses said they heard shots being fired inside a car that was driving southbound on Boy Scout Road, said Deputy Chief Gary Woodruff with the Lawrence Police Department.

The vehicle crashed into a traffic pole after it made a turn on eastbound 56th Street at Boy Scout Road.

Woodruff said three other people exited the vehicle and ran south on Boy Scout Road after the shooting.

Authorities have apprehended the three people who were seen getting out of the car. They were being questioned by police.

Police said they did not immediately know if the shooting happened in the car or elsewhere.
