GREENCASTLE, Ind.—A correctional officer at the Putnamville Correctional Facility was arrested Sunday. She’s accused of having an inappropriate relationship with an inmate.

The Indiana Department of Correction says they arrested Barbara Kapaun, 52, on charges of official misconduct and sexual misconduct by a service provider. Both of those are felonies.

“We have a zero-tolerance policy on this type of misconduct by our staff,” says Internal Affairs Lead Investigator James Smith. “We will arrest and seek prosecution against any employee who chooses to make these decisions.”

Kapaun was placed on emergency suspension.

Formal charges will be determined by the Putnam County Prosecutor’s Office.
