BLOOMINGTON, Ind.--A 9-year-old boy was rescued from a river near Indiana University Thursday.

An IU spokesperson said the boy was unconscious and not breathing when he was taken from the Jordan River not far from the Indiana Memorial Union.

Investigators say a campus police officer used a portable defibrillator (AED) to get a pulse and revive the boy.

He was taken to IU Health Bloomington Hospital.

Police are trying to figure out how the boy ended up in the river.
