Harvard declares its independence and Trump gives it to them. The nerve of leftists and their institutions. They complain about this country, yet they always have their hands out. NPR and PBS are notoriously on the left. The United States is an oppressive nation, and is racist against its own people they report, yet they want the American taxpayer to fit the bill. Why can’t they operate like Tony Katz does and provide content that the free market will fund? Harvard and the poison ivies want to be independent from this oppressive nation? Well, now they are getting

Tony Katz:

$2.2 billion worth of grants to Harvard have been frozen. Good. I am overjoyed by such thing because I have yet to determine why it is that the university set needs our money at all. I feel the same way about NPR. I feel the same way about PBS. Why do they get tax dollars? I’m a radio host. Where’s my tax dollar? Where is my funding from the federal government to do this show, which is far more entertaining than anything NPR has ever created? Ed Morrissey joins us right now from hotair.com. It starts with Harvard, and it starts with this freeze of $2.2 billion in grants. What is the cause of this grant freeze?

Ed Morrissey:

Well, the administration wants harbored to revamp its policies regarding protecting Jewish students and Jewish faculty on campuses and Harvard was one of many of these, you know, Poison Ivy, so-called poison ivies, and other colleges and universities where intimidation campaigns took place against Jewish students and Jewish faculty as a result of the war in Gaza, which by the way, was started by Hamas and these people have been organizing in support of Hamas. They’ve been organizing in opposition to Israel’s right to self-defense. Those are legitimate political. The latter at least is a legitimate political debate. But you can’t close down campus as you can’t intimidate, you know? Students on the basis of their ethnicity or their religion. That’s violation of the Civil Rights Act. Title six and seven, I think both apply in that case. And Title 9 is for gender and or really actually to be more accurate, Title 9 is sex discrimination, not gender. And that was something that the court ruled on recently as well. And, and it’s up to each administration to interpret what that means. Every administration interprets these rules in order to use federal funding to sort of yank the leash on colleges to employ the policies that they prefer. The Trump administration is doing this, and Harvard doesn’t like it, and they’re claiming that it encroaches on their independence. How independent can you be if you’re getting $2.2 billion from the federal government? That stuff comes with strings.

That’s not independence. What you’re asking for is to secure your spot at the public trough. Without any conditions whatsoever, which has never been how those monies have been handled, not by any administration in the past, and especially not the Barack Obama administration and Biden administration.

Tony Katz:

The Barack Obama administration, I believe went after Hillsdale College, which doesn’t take any federal funding whatsoever.
