Interstate Shootings Lead to Hoosiers Bulletproofing Cars
INDIANAPOLIS – You may have read stories the last few years about shootings on the interstate in Indiana. The violence has some drivers spending money to bulletproof their cars.
“The type of people we’re getting calls and emails and sales inquiries from has definitely changed the last four or five years,” said Armormax COO Justin Johnson in an interview with our newsgathering partners at WISH-TV. Armormax bulletproofs cars, a service they typically charge $40,000-$85,000 for.
Johnson says he’s seeing an increase in demand form people who would not be considered high-value targets. A few examples would include law enforcement or professional athletes.
“They’re seeing reports where acts of violence are just happening to random folks,” said Johnson. There may not be a target on them, necessarily, but they might be the unfortunate target of a random act of violence.”
According to State police, there were 70 interstate shootings in 2024, which was 16 more than the previous year.
