INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — The Benjamin Harrison Presidential Site is welcoming Hoosiers to honor Former United States President, Jimmy Carter.

Carter died Sunday aged 100, and the site is allowing anyone to support him.

“We just feel like it’s important to pay respects to another American president,” President and CEO of the site, Charles Hyde says. “There have only been 45 presidents in this country’s history out of more than 500 million people.”

The museum is in honor of the 23rd United States President, Benjamin Harrison, but Hyde says they also want to honor Carter.

“This is our way to be able to show that appreciation for our former president,” Hyde says.

Hyde was sad to hear about Carter’s passing, so he tells people that they can come and lay a flower on the museum’s grounds.

“Of course it’s deeply saddening, but what a tremendous life, and certainly, President Carter made a great name for himself as much for his contributions post-presidency, as a president of the United States,” Hyde says.

The site will let anyone honor Carter at any time throughout the day without admission. Some people put some flowers on the presidential promenade early Monday to honor the former president.

“It’s open to the public and can do so through the day and through the week,” Hyde says.

The museum will be open for a 30-day period to respect Jimmy Carter’s legacy.
