INDIANAPOLIS — Michael Strahan, who is on the Pro Football Hall of Fame, FOX NFL Sunday, and Good Morning America, was named honorary Pace Car driver for the 109th Indy 500 for May next year.

The announcement was made during FOX NFL Sunday. He started his career as member of the New York Giants, but now he’ll be driving a Chevy Corvette, which could drive up to 233 miles per hour. This car will put him ahead of 33 drivers in what’s known as “The Greatest Spectacle in Racing.”

“Michael is an impressive addition to the lineup of all-star athletes and celebrities to serve as honorary Pace Car driver for the Indianapolis 500,” IMS President J. Douglas Boles said. “From the gridiron to the broadcast studio, Michael is no stranger to leading a fast-paced field. As we kick off a new era of INDYCAR and the Indy 500 on FOX, Michael will have one of the best seats in the house for the start of the world’s greatest race.”

Strahan joins other Pace Car drivers like Morgan Freeman, Robin Roberts, and Ken Griffey Jr. Fans can expect extensive race coverage as FOX will premiere a five-hour broadcast of the event, committing to INDYCAR racing.
