(Fairfax, VA) — The Virginia jury has found in favor of Johnny Depp in his defamation trial against ex-wife Amber Heard.

Depp sued Heard for $50 million over an op-ed piece she wrote in The Washington Post about domestic violence. The “Pirates of the Caribbean” star claimed the article hurt his career and caused him to lose roles in films. The jury has awarded Depp $15 million.

The jury also found in favor of Heard in some parts of her $100 million countersuit against Depp, but only awarded her $2 million. Depp sued Heard for $50 million over an op-ed piece she wrote in The Washington Post about domestic violence. The “Pirates of the Caribbean” star claimed the article hurt his career and caused him to lose roles in films.

In a statement, Heard said the disappointment she feel today “is beyond words.” She goes on to say “It sets back the clock to a time when a woman who spoke up and spoke out could be publicly shamed and humiliated.”

Depp says he “has his life back” after winning the trial. Depp said released his own statement saying “the best is yet to come and a new chapter has finally begun.”
