MARION COUNTY, Ind. — Marion County Prosecutor Ryan Mears could have an opponent in the November general election.

IndyPolitics reports Cyndi Carrasco, former state Inspector General and a former aide to Governor Eric Holcomb, has officially declared her run for Marion County prosecutor. She’s the only Republican candidate who has entered their name in the race thus far.

Carrasco says her 20-year legal career has prepared her for the challenge of holding criminals accountable and advocating for victims of violent crime.

The primary election is scheduled for Tuesday, May 3. The Marion County Republican Party will hold a slating convention on Saturday, February 5th. That’s where the party will slate its preferred nominee for the office of Marion County Prosecutor.

Carrasco, 41, is originally from El Paso, Texas, and is the daughter of naturalized Mexican immigrants.
