MARION COUNTY, Ind. — An inmate at the Marion County Jail died by an apparent suicide.

The Marion County Sheriff’s Office says jail staff found 45-year-old Jonas Mooneyham unresponsive and not breathing in his cell around 7 o’clock Monday morning. The staff tried CPR, but were unsuccessful. Medics were called and tried another round of life saving measures, but they were also unresponsive.

Preliminary information is that Mooneyham committed suicide by hanging. He was not being held in the suicide housing unit, as investigators say he did not show any signs of being suicidal when booked into jail. He was being held in the detox housing unit.

Jail records show Mooneyham was arrested on January 15th on charges of armed robbery and resisting law enforcement. He was also wanted in Hendricks County for felony drug charges.
