INDIANAPOLIS — Indianapolis Animal Care Services is looking for people to adopt dogs and cats this holiday season.

This year, Indy ACS has taken in more than 4,880 animals. About 140 of those animals are currently at the shelter, waiting to be adopted or taken into a foster home.

The shelter says it currently has zero open kennels and animals are being kept in crates in hallways.

Adoptions are currently free when you bring in an item from the Indy ACS wish list.

Wish List items include:

  • Bleach and laundry detergent
  • Canned food for cats, kittens, and dogs
  • Catnip
  • Dog and cat toys

The shelter is offering walk-up adoptions on Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

Available animals and adoption paperwork can be found here.
