INDIANAPOLIS—-A police officer in Indianapolis had to fire his gun and one person was critically injured in a shooting that happened Friday night on the south side of Indianapolis.

The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department said the shooting happened in the 7700 block of Hackberry Court around 8:30 p.m. Friday. They were called to that scene on a report that shots had been fired. That is near the intersection of Madison Avenue and E Stop 11 Road at the Greentree Apartment complex.

During the incident, police say an officer fired their weapon and hit the suspect. That suspect was taken to a hospital in critical condition. No officers were injured.

Investigators have identified everyone involved in the shooting and said there is no threat to the community.
