Criminal Investigation Against Dead Sullivan County Coroner Moving Ahead
SULLIVAN, Ind. — Police in Sullivan County are continuing with a criminal investigation into the county’s coroner who is now dead.
Tracy Tackett was found dead of a self-inflicted gunshot earlier this week. It was after a YouTube video surfaced on the Internet showing a YouTuber confronting Tackett for what appears to be him trying to meet up with an underage girl in Henderson, Kentucky.
In the video, Tackett denies trying to meet up with an underage girl and says he’s in Henderson to “see the river.” Tackett quickly left after being confronted by the YouTuber. The video was posted on Aug. 12. Four days later Tackett was found dead.
State police have taken in the electronic devices of both Tackett and the YouTuber who posted the video as evidence in the investigation.
Investigators say that two other complaints have been filed against Tackett, but they say the statute of limitations on those accusations has run out. State law says a victim must report a sex crime committed against them as a child before they turn 31, otherwise, that case cannot be prosecuted.
