Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) and Sen. Ed Markey (D-MA) are attempting to push a $70 billion “Civilian Climate Corps” bill using Congress’ budget reconciliation process, a method of ramming legislation through without the hassle of pesky interference from those mean ole’ Republicans.
According to a joint press release, Ocasio-Cortez and Markey’s “Civilian Climate Corps for Jobs and Justice Act” would hire a “diverse and equitable” group of 1.5 million young Americans to “complete federally-funded projects that help communities respond to climate change and transition to a clean economy.”
“The CCC would put 1.5 million young people to work strengthening our communities and preserving our lands — doing everything from remediating blight and maintaining trails to creating entirely new green spaces,” said Ocasio-Cortez. “The program also provides the support needed to turn this work into a career path — including childcare, eldercare and tax-free educational grants to be used for student loan debt payments or higher education.”
And there it is! This bill isn’t about climate change at all. This is just another attempt by far-left radicals to expand government welfare and redistribute wealth.
Sen. Markey essentially acknowledges this fact by stating: “To combat the interlocking crises of the moment — climate change, racial injustice, a global pandemic, and income inequality — our government has an opportunity to equitably reimagine an idea from the past and tailor it to meet the present and the future.”
The bill would supposedly guarantee salaries between $25,000 and $50,000 for so-called “corpsmembers.”
Of course, $25,000 for a 40-hour workweek is only $12 per hour, and we know AOC wants a $15 per hour minimum wage. But who are we kidding? No one on “salary” is going to actually be forced to work for that money.
We’ve gone to the trouble of providing a video of AOC discussing the bill for those of you who are gluttons for punishment. The better option is to click below and hear Mock n’ Rob explain this disastrous bill in detail.
This is the good stuff below.
