SOUTH BEND, Ind. — What President-elect Joe Biden wants for the United States is what most Americans want, says former South Bend mayor Pete Buttigieg.

“That, I think, is where the real propulsion of his administration will be,” Buttigieg told Fox News Sunday. “We should remember that those who supported him (Biden) and a remarkable number of President Trump’s supporters, support the agenda that Joe Biden is going to lead our country forward with.”

One of the bullet points of Biden’s agenda Buttigieg refers to is using a “science-based approach” in getting the coronavirus pandemic under control.

The former Democratic presidential candidate added that it will be up to Senate Republicans to choose whether or not they want to help move the country forward or keep it stuck where it is.

“Mitch McConnell is going to have to decide whether he wants to help move this country forward or influence progress, or if he wants to stop progress,” said Buttigieg. “The Republican caucus in the Senate will have to decide whether it wants to continue facing down the American people and standing in the way of what America wants, which, I think, would be a decision strategically to make the Republican Party a party of minority rule.”

Buttigieg added President Trump has the chance to show leadership and bring the country together in the final days of his Presidency.

He also called Vice President-elect Kamala Harris becoming the first woman, the first Black American, and the first South Asian American to be vice president historic and the affirming of progress in the U.S.
