Honoring The 43rd Anniversary of a Classic: “Smokey and the Bandit” Traffic with Matt Bair
On May 27, 1977, “Smokey and the Bandit,” starring Burt Reynolds, Sally Field, Jerry Reed, and the great Jackie Gleason as “Sheriff Buford T. Justice” made its premiere in New York City’s Radio City Music Hall… and the audience hated it.
That’s right; the second-highest-grossing film of 1977 was actually considered a complete dud upon its debut in New York.
The film’s fortunes quickly changed, however, once “Smokey and the Bandit” hit theaters in the South, eventually raking in $126,737,428 in North America on a $4.3 million budget. Its worldwide gross is estimated at over $300 million

Film critics were brutal, but moviegoers LOVED it – including none other than Alfred Hitchcock. The legendary director once stated the “Smokey and the Bandit” was his very favorite movie.
In celebration of the 43rd anniversary of “Smokey and the Bandit” and Jason Hammer’s father, Burt Reynolds, the guys called upon the impeccable talent and humor of WIBC legend Matt Bair to deliver today’s traffic reports “Smokey Style.”
