MADISON, Ind. — A southern Indiana man has been charged for a crash that killed two people in January.

On Monday, Indiana State Police arrested Blake Coombs, 19, for two counts of Resisting Law Enforcement Causing Death and two counts of Reckless Homicide.

On January 9, Coombs led police on a high-speed chase in Madison before crashing into two utility poles. The passengers, 19-year-old Brooklyn James and 18-year-old Tyler Cooley, were both killed. Coombs was taken to a Louisville hospital with serious injuries. Tests showed that he had marijuana and controlled substances in his system at the time of the crash.

Coombs had been in the Pendleton Juvenile Correctional Facility on an unrelated charge since being released from the hospital in January.
