FORT WAYNE, Ind. — An announcement that was surely “music to the ears” of officials in Fort Wayne and Allen County Tuesday.

Sweetwater Sound in Fort Wayne announced a massive $76-million expansion of their campus off US 30, adding 1,009 new jobs by 2022. Governor Eric Holcomb was on hand, and says the music retailer is one of the biggest success stories around for the Hoosier State.

“Sweetwater is a strong, Indiana-built company with a proven track record of recruiting and retaining employees from other states, boasting employees from 48 states and seven countries,” said Holcomb. “Sweetwater brings a welcome diversity to the industry base in northeast Indiana and is a driving force in the quality of life in Fort Wayne.”

Sweetwater Founder Chuck Surack says there have been other communities, especially on the West Coast, trying to lure Sweetwater away from Indiana, but he’s not budging from Fort Wayne just yet.

“This new facility will accommodate the tremendous growth we’ve experienced recently,” said Surack. “Our sales continue to increase each and every year, which means we need more room to be able to serve our customers in the way to which they’re accustomed.”

Ground will be broken on the expansion Wednesday, with plans to have it up and running by the summer of 2020.
