JOINT BASE ANDREWS, Md. — A plane carrying First Lady Melania Trump was forced to turn around shortly after takeoff Wednesday due to smoke in the cabin.

According to CNN, members of the press pool traveling with Mrs. Trump reported a “thin haze of smoke and smell [of&#93 something burning” about ten minutes into the flight. Reporters were given wet towels to cover their faces if the smell became too strong.

The plane turned around and landed safely at Joint Base Andrews in Maryland. No injuries have been reported.

Stephanie Grisham, Trump’s communications director, told CNN the incident was a “minor mechanical issue. Everything is fine and everyone is safe.”

The First Lady was headed to a speaking engagement at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia.

The trip remains on for later Wednesday and the First Lady will take a different plane, Grisham told CNN.
