INDIANAPOLIS — Hoosiers will have a chance to honor the life and legacy of late U.S. Senator Birch Bayh.
A public memorial service will be held for Bayh at noon Wednesday in the south atrium of the Indiana Statehouse.
Bayh died last month at the age of 91. He served in the Senate from 1963 until 1981 and was the only person since the Founding Fathers to author multiple amendments to the U.S. Constitution.
Among those expected to attend the memorial service are Indiana Gov. Eric Holcomb, Purdue University President and former Gov. Mitch Daniels, and former Indiana congressmen Lee Hamilton and Baron Hill.
Bayh’s sons, former U.S. Sen. and Indiana Gov. Evan Bayh and attorney Christopher Bayh, will deliver the eulogy. His widow, Katherine “Kitty” Bayh, is expected to read a poem written by her late husband.
If you’re planning to attend, you’re asked to use the Capitol Street or Senate Avenue entrance to access the south atrium.
