FORT WAYNE, Ind.–An email scam attempting to get students’ credit or debit card information has been happening at Purdue University Fort Wayne.
In a Facebook post, school representatives say the scam comes in an email from a PFW.edu address and says a billing error resulted in an overcharge to the student’s account.
It goes on to say and that the student needs to verify their card information to receive a refund. The school says they did not send that and students should not provide their credit or debit card information.
If a student is supposed to get a refund, that will be reflected in the student’s account balance on goPFW and a refund will be issued either via direct deposit or a mailed check.
Purdue University Fort Wayne leaders say they will never send emails asking students to verify their cards.
