BARTHOLOMEW COUNTY, Ind. — A 14-year-old boy from Bartholomew County faces criminal charges after making a bogus 911 call.

The boy dialed 911 early Tuesday morning to report an armed robbery at a gas station in Hartsville, a town about 15 miles northeast of Columbus.

He told a dispatcher that he was inside the gas station and men with guns were trying to break in.

Members of the Bartholomew Co. Sheriff’s Department and Indiana State Police rushed to the gas station and realized the emergency was fake.

Police tracked the boy down and he admitted to making the call, according to Sheriff Matt Myers.

The boy was arrested and faces two misdemeanor counts of false reporting. Because of his age, his name is not being released.
