BLOOMINGTON, Ind.–A scammer is using the Bloomington Police Department’s phone number to get people to buy Bitcoin and scam them out of money.

The Bloomington Police Department says the scammer uses the phone number, 812-339-4477, to call people and tell them to go to their bank, take out all the money from their account, and purchase Bitcoin.

Police say the scammer then gives the person a specific place to send the Bitcoin. If this has happened to you, you need to call the Bloomington Police Department.

Police departments will never ask you to empty your bank accounts or buy large amounts of gift cards or Bitcoin for any reason.
