GENEVA, Ind. — It looks like an accident, but a child was found shot to death in Adams County Wednesday afternoon.

Sheriff’s deputies say they got the call at around 3:40 — dispatch said it was an unknown injury. They arrived at a home near Geneva to find an 11-year-old boy shot.

EMT’s came but could do nothing. The boy was dead.

Sheriff Daniel Mawhoor says it’s still early in the investigation, but it appears one of the boy’s younger siblings got their hands on a loaded gun and accidentally shot the boy.

It’s not clear yet if any charges will be filed.

The sheriff’s office is conducting a criminal investigation and will turn their findings over to Adams County prosecutors when they are finished.
