WASHINGTON–Congressman Jim Banks (R-Ind.) is accusing the U.S. Dept. of Justice under the Biden administration, of being soft on political crimes from people on the left, versus people on the right, particularly the Jan. 6 U.S. Capitol riot.

“A fella tried to blow up a police car, was arrested by the Trump DOJ (Dept. of Justice), has a mandatory minimum sentence, by the way, of five years, and the Biden DOJ just dropped charges,” said Banks, on the Fox News Channel’s “The Ingraham Angle”.

Banks also brought up the case against Colinford Mattis and Urooj Rahman, two attorneys accused of throwing a Moltov cocktail at a New York City Police van and injuring an officer.

“A couple of lawyers tried to firebomb a police car in New York, sentenced to 10 years by the Trump DOJ. The Biden DOJ changes it to two years,” he said.

The lawyers were given a plea deal with reduced charges, in which they agreed to plead guilty to serve less time.

Banks said he believes the current administration has a double standard.

“Case after case after case proves there’s a different set of rules with the Biden DOJ for those on the right versus those on the left,” said Banks. “They’ve dropped charges on about half of those who were arrested in the Portland BLM riots in the summer of 2020. But, then you get to Jan. 6, about 800 people arrested. They’ve dropped charges on maybe just a handful of them.”

‘The Dept. of Justice cannot change a person’s sentence once it is imposed. Banks’ accusation is that different deals are being worked out under the Biden administration, versus what was done by tyhe Dept. of Justice under Pres. Trump, and that the Biden administration has a different set of standards, according to political affiliation.

Other commentators have accused the Biden DOJ of employing a double standard with protestors outside Supreme Court justices homes.

The Biden administration hasn’t responded.
